The Future of Interactive Communication

Reflecting on my speech few months back regarding the changes technology has brought to the future of our interactive communication:
You know, those technological whiz kids hiding behind screen names like dark_knight2000 or puteriampang87? I think it’s high time someone identify and attribute faces and names to them. Real faces and real names - and I'm not talking about Facebook.
Full post here.

Now, check out this random conversation I had over Windows Live Messenger yesterday.

I don't mean to be rude by not replying, but being flabbergasted, I really had no idea how to respond.

I don't think I'm quite cut out for the future of interactive communication. Maybe, that's the reason why my Dad doesn't hang out on Windows Live.

  1. It's been awhile that I visit your blog and it's so interesting/funny to read this post.

Agree to your points and I don't think anyone would know how to response to that. Hahaha..

  2. LOL. Think I've gotten some random conversations like that before, and is it just me or are there more random "friend requests" on Facebook?

  4. Hi Joel!

Poor girl. Must be really infatuated by you. But its really scary to receive conversations as such. For one, i have random boys doing so as well - and they don't get one second of my attention. But who knows, he may be the boy sitting next to me in class. Freaky heh.

  5. haha. That girl is just plain weird. Only little kids ask questions like "can I be your friend?". It has nothing to do with you not being cut out for the future of interactive communication. =)

  6. gosh, looks like u've finally met ur 1st online admirer... hehehe.

  7. immi: I don't think that's his *first* online admirer. lol =)

  8. chris: havent heard from you in ages. hows things in ICOM? yea. was really difficult to find the right words to reply, so i skipped.=)

john: i think you're probably just over popular. i don't get that many random friend requests on facebook. i remember the randomness in friendster though. maybe its somehow influenced by your profile picture. ;)

caffenny: windows live rock. the new version looks super cool too.

    kim: stop freakin me out!

jojo: haha. but i have to say that the faceless communication tools can be quite dangerous too. read a recent article about this guy who got conned into exposing himself to a 'girl' through webcam. next thing he knew, he was being extorted for cash. poor guy. and yes, i'm sure you guys are thinking "he deserved it".

immi: still hanging out at poppy on fri nights?

    joanne: hush.=.=

  9. joanne: hahah. i stand corrected... :) just checking, u work for youthmalaysia.com rite? i think we might've spoken to each other before. :P

joel: not as much anymore. somehow slowed down a bit after CNY. but i still go to velvet on saturdays occasionally. how about yourself? i know tim's still going regularly. ;)

  10. immi: we have? ah. do refresh my memory :)

joel: perhaps it's due time the fan club entrepreneurship really pulls off. :P
